Ozonation unit for SENSO3 project
The main goal of the SENSO3 project (elimination of pollutants in urban wastewater by means of ozonation controlled by biosensors) was to develop a treatment system for ozonation of micro-contaminants in water and its monitoring and control by means of optical biosensors based on gold nanoprisms, to optimize its elimination minimizing maintenance and operating expenses.
The validation of the complete system was carried out at a wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) in the province of Pontevedra.
Thanks to these innovations, the elimination efficiency of microcontaminants in WWTP was improved by 60% compared to previous treatments.
In addition, the energy cost of ozonation was reduced by 10%, the analysis time of microcontaminants was reduced to 1 hour and these tests were reduced by 80%.
